Overview // A one week innovation challenge for Sports Graduate Students in Barcelona

Barcelona Sports Hub is the sports hub of Barcelona. It is the reference point, both at state and European level, in which the different stakeholders of the sports sector can join forces and create synergies between them.

ONE WEEK TEAM WORK SPRINT

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The student cohort were tasked with the challenge to develop an innovative membership platform for all key stakeholders at Barcelona Sports Hub to foster networking and ideation for increased work and partnership opportunities.

Not only did students work on a local company project, but they were also able to learn and network with other key sports management organisations in Barcelona, including the HQ of EuroLeague basketball.

Our on site program also included a range of social and cultural events including a Barcelona walking tour, a local culinary workshop and access to a flamenco evening. Students were also given free time at the weekend and evenings to enjoy this cultural diverse city.

This onsite program example was delivered in 2024 for Carthage College and their Sports Management graduate program.

Program Daily Schedule

Day One // Saturday

Students arrived and are met at the airport from our team and transferred to the hotel. Students were given the day to acclimatise to the city and relax after travelling.

Day Two // Sunday

A range of social and cultural activities are organised for the Sunday with a Barcelona walking tour and welcome dinner. After the dinner students were then taken to a flamenco show for a social event.

Day Three // Monday

Monday starts at the cowork space with an introduction to the weeks work sprint challenge. Students are also introduced to the cowork space and some of the key individuals supporting them over the week. They were introduced to the project brief and as teams arranged a project plan and relevant questions for their client meeting the following day.

Day Four // Tuesday

In the morning students met their client, Barcelona Sports Hub and were able to gather critical information needed to complete their innovation work sprint. In the afternoon students arranged themselves into teams and began to tackle the client proposal.

Day Five // Wednesday

Student teams continue to work on the client project during work hours.

In the afternoon students are taken on a site visit to Euro League Basketball HQ in Barcelona to learn more about the organisation and Basketball in Europe.

Day Six // Thursday

Student teams continue to work on finalising their ideas and suggestions for the client for final presentation on the Friday.

In the evening students are taken to the Barcelona Innovation Centre to learn more about the startup ecosystem of the city and how this transfers into the cities sports ecosystem.

Day Seven // Friday

Teams present their final solutions to the Barcelona Sports Hub. Work is submitted at the Sport Hub offices and allow students to pitch in a professional environment. The suggestions are very well received from the client and have been implemented since.

In the evening students join a final presentation and awards and are given information on how they can be further supported in their careers in the world of sports management.

Day Eight // Saturday

Students have a free day to explore the city and prepare for departure the following day.

Day Nine // Sunday

Students depart Barcelona
